Edoardo Colzani's Award-Winning Floor Lamp Redefines Aesthetic Language

Colzani's inspiration for the Globe Floor Lamp came from his desire to enhance the object's shapes without exaggeration, using a simple aesthetic language. The result is a lamp with essential shapes but with a significant impact. The lamp's unique properties lie in its new perception of the luminous object, where LED light, handcrafted materials, and simple forms combine perfectly. The design originates from a spherical element reinterpreted by cutting its upper and lower domes to cast light in both directions.

The Globe Floor Lamp is not just a design marvel but also a technical feat. The lampshade, made up of a single metal piece without weld joints, required significant effort in its realization. The lamp is flexible, thanks to the adjustable lampshade and LED bar, and the different combinations of internal and external finishes. The lamp is available in satin copper, black iron "Cenere," or with an inside in satin copper and outside black lacquered.

The Globe Lamp is designed to be a flexible element in the hands of the end users. They can rotate both the lampshade and the LED bar to adapt the light to their specific needs, fixing it to the ideal angle and obtaining the most effective result. This flexibility is a testament to Colzani's commitment to user-friendly design.

The design and engineering research for the Globe project took a year, with the most significant challenge being the realization of the lampshade using only one single metal piece. This process required the creation of a spherical dome using the turning technique, subsequently laser cut to open it on both sides. The final product was first exhibited at Euroluce and Salone del Mobile di Milano in April 2017.
